Personal Statement
I've been a competitive gymnast for ten years, and even though I'm chasing a spot on a collegiate dive team, it's been my experience as a gymnast that has taught me what it takes to be a true competitor. Over the years, I have experienced challenge after challenge. I've been in places where I nearly quit because what I was doing was so difficult. However I've never let any of those challenges stop me from achieving the goals that I set for myself. I have learned what hard work truly is. I've learned dedication, determination, perseverance, and much more. My experience as a gymnast has taught me that one does not become a champion by winning awards, but by making whatever sacrifices are necessary to achieve their wildest dreams. Winning a championship is merely a demonstration of one's championship character. My understanding of this has helped me become the athlete that I am today. I now compete at the elite level, and am a team USA hopeful. My experience in gymnastics has easily transitioned to the diving board. I have the physical ability to flip and the mental ability to push myself out of my comfort zone. I set my goals high, and I love to chase perfection. My determination lead me to win the state championship for the past three years as a freshman, sophomore and junior. I will hopefully be able to win a fourth and final time in my upcoming senior year as well. My goal for next season is to make 315 points in a 6 dive meet, and 500 points in an 11 dive meet. With current personal bests of 300.75 and 481.30, I believe those goals are within reach. Whether it's in the gym or on the board, I keep practices upbeat and fun. I love to encourage my team mates and watch them succeed as well. I'm always there for my teammates when they need me, because to me team is family. Even on the toughest days, I remind myself and my teammates alike to keep pushing, because it's the tough days that you really build yourself up and become a champion. Also, I have many more videos, so if there’s a dive listed that isn’t in my video, feel free to send me a message and I’ll find it for you. :)
