Personal Statement
I have many reasons for wanting to dive in college. First, nothing is better for the soul than being with people who not only care for you, but understand your passion and push you to be your best. My teammates hold me accountable, not only to my sport, but to my studies as well. I plan on studying molecular oncology, so having the extra support from other athletes will be invaluable in helping me achieve my goals.
Next, I discovered diving while watching the summer olympics with my father. My dad loved watching my practices and especially my meets. He has since passed away but I feel his love and encouragement every time I’m on the boards. I have always had drive and determination, and want to continue excelling at the sport I love, knowing how proud my dad would be of me.
Also, I have been in competitive sports since I was young and recognize the benefits of being a student athlete. It has taught me the worthwhile skills of time management and prioritization of my responsibilities and obligations. I realized early on that I am a student and an athlete and need to be diligent with my studies. I have also learned the importance of physical fitness, proper nutrition, good sleep habits, and mental well-being.
Lastly, I want to be a member of a team not only for what it will do for me, but for what I can do for my team. I am a dedicated, hardworking teammate. I am naturally supportive, but after experiencing the loss of my father, I have become more empathetic of other people’s experiences and know I will be a great source of encouragement.
