Personal Statement
When I was 3 years old, my parents had to ask special permission for me to jump off the 3 meter board at our public pool. I had no idea that this was foreshadowing what would become an integral part of the person I am today. Athletics have been a part of my life since I could move. From a young age my parents enrolled me in gymnastics to contain my high energy and to cut down on broken furniture from my constant tumbling around the house. After 7 years of training, conditioning and hard work I faced a broken hand and a broken foot within months of each other, leading me to decide to trade in gymnastics for diving. Many of my gymnast teammates transitioned to diving after injuries, so I decided to give diving a try. Walking out after my first practice with my cap and towel in hand, I knew that diving was and still is the sport for me. I especially love platform and all the challenges and rewards that come with this event.
Every waking hour of my life my parents have drilled the importance of work ethic, focus, and academics into my head. I’ve internalized these ideals and use them every day to become a better athlete, a better student, and a better person. I feel this work ethic will help me succeed in college as both an athlete and a student. My hope is to work in the field of medicine and these traits should serve me well as I work toward this goal. Finally, my collegiate goal for diving is to have a 10M Platform list and compete this during my college career. I hope to continue to enjoy the thrill ten meter brings in college as well as continuing my focus in school.
