My name is Kailyn Schell and I am a Junior at St. Lucy’s Priory High School in Glendora, California. Ever since I was a little girl, it has been my dream to be a college athlete. What differentiates me from other potential golf recruits is the path that led me to where I am today. While I played golf recreationally since I was four years old with my father, my initial sport was soccer. It was there where I learned about competition, hard work and teamwork. For over a decade, I played at the highest level of club soccer in Southern California where I was Captain and Center Midfield for my team. We won nearly two dozen tournaments throughout the Country and were League Champions. The lessons learned on the pitch of hard work, determination and selflessness are the very ones that I rely on as a golfer.
I have now played competitive golf for three years. When I came into high school three years ago, my focus was improving and leading our team to new heights. I fell in love with the team and the comradery amongst the girls on the team. I worked very hard to be a strong teammate and improve each and every day as a golfer. During my Sophomore year, I was selected by the team (mostly upperclassman) as a Captain. I was the first Sophomore Captain of the Program in its history. Currently, I completed my Junior Year wherein I was Captain again and selected as First Team All League in the Baseline League. I am extremely proud that I have been the Leader of this team for two years, have improved each year tremendously, continue to work hard and be a positive example for my school. In that I ‘retired’ from Soccer in 2018, my singular focus is golf and I am committed to being the best golfer I can be.
I believe my life skills set up to be a strong college golfer. I love the game and I know I can be an asset as a competitor, role model and teammate for whatever school I attend. I am open to teaching and work hard to correct and improve my game as I know it will make me a better player. I understand that I have not had the traditional track to where I am today. However, I believe that the path that I have been on will only benefit me as I go forward.
