Personal Statement

Hello Coaches, my name is Aiyanna Bailey and I am a16 year old Sophomore from Hollister, California. Though I have braved challenging writings in my life, I have always found personal statements the most difficult to inscribe. How can you really sell yourself to someone without really meeting them? You know, looking into their eyes and just connecting? Well, I would like to start by telling you all that I am very passionate about the game of golf. Though at first, my career began because of a strong sibling rivalry, I have come to realize how this game had truly become one of the best, most consistent parts of my life. I am constantly craving that feeling of swinging a club. The peace I feel. The sense of comfort and familiarity. That is what golf means to me. To me, it is not just another sport, played out of boredom, or a complete lack of physical activity. No, golf to me is a lifestyle, a sport, the likes of which, I have never found an equal measure of awe. I believe that that is what makes me a good candidate for a team. My passion. That sense of fierce protectiveness, never-ending hardworking values, gorging competitiveness, and a deep pit of zealousness for the sport.

Though success in golf has always been a goal of mine, I also strive to be much more than just a golfer. I pride myself in being an excellent student, an exceptional role model, and a fervent leader. I enjoy working with the youth, as well as people in my community, in general, which is why I aspire to major in some type of Education, preferably History as I also have a deep passion for our world's past. Education has always been enrooted in my personal values since I began my educational career, which is why my success in college is extremely important to me, alongside success in my golf career.

Growing up, my parents always instilled in me a great sense of hardworkingness, discipline, and humility which is what my coaches, teachers, and peers have told me are my best traits on and off the course. I feel I am an ideal candidate because of these traits as well, as I strive each and every day to do better than I did yesterday! I have no doubt that my next years as a High School Golfer will continue to push me to excel both personally and as an athlete and I am extremely excited to see how I much I grow and develop over the next two years! Thank you so much for your time and consideration!

Awards and Activities

  • AwardsIn my past year in High School, I have been ranked in top 10 percent of my class, been accepted into the national honors society, and have taken part in a rigorous AVID elective that had prepared me for college.
  • ActivitiesOutside of school and sports, I enjoy a number of different hobbies. Mainly, I spend lots of time giving back to the community through volunteering locally in which I have racked up a total of 41 hours this year alone, I enjoy tutoring other students inside and outside of the classroom, competing in poetry competitions such as the Ebber and Webb writing competition and the Poetry Out Loud oral competition, as well as being involved in various clubs such as my school's Gazette Club, AVID club, All For Christ Club, Speech and Debate Club, Link Crew, The National Honors Society, and being a president of Golf Club. I enjoy peer-coaching which I have been involved in for a year with kids of the middle school level, as well as giving back to my school through leadership exercises such as by helping ASB throw events such as Homecoming, Freshman Orientation, and other spirited events.
