I started golfing at the age of 4 but did not begin to play competitively until I was 12. I began by playing junior tournaments and showed sufficient progress, so I started to dedicate more time to golf. This past summer, I played in my first Provincial Championship and first National Championship which proves how far I have come in these past 4 years. From age 8 to 14, I was part of Burnaby Karate Academy and from 2017 to 2019, I was a part of the Provincial team of British Columbia for karate and in 2018 and 2019, I was on the Canadian Junior National Team. Travelling and working as a group taught me how to be a part of a team where you are not only playing as an individual, but also working towards a common goal of succeeding as a team. I believe that these experiences have helped me grow into a person that can work well on a team as well as on my own.
My goals for collegiate golf are to play in a NCAA Championship Final and grow as a person while being part of this team. I watched Kupcho and Fassi in the final at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and this experience was very inspiring for me because it made me realize that I too wanted to play at that level. I want to inspire other young golfers by working hard and dedicating myself to the game. 2020 was a tough year for everyone and our school was shut down for last semester. My family and I are from Canada and when we came back for March break, all the golf courses were closed, and we had to adapt to this situation and began to practice inside the house or in the backyard. However, this situation impacted me more academically because I had to become my own teacher and it taught me to take responsibility and learn to rely on myself.
