At the age of eight, I remember sitting next to my father on the golf cart as we watched my sister tee off on the 18th hole. While her day had a rough start, my father and I continued to watch while her name climbed the leaderboard. When her round came to a close, I knew she had just shot the best score of her high school career. As soon as she accepted her trophy, I was hooked. My passion for golf was initially fueled by my desire to win. Over the years, this passion has evolved into a love of the game.
Through golf, I have developed athletic endurance and flexibility. However, golf is not just a physical sport, but also a game of mental stamina and adaptability. Tom, my coach, has had a huge influence over the golfer I have become. He has helped me to view the game of golf in its entirety. While most young golfers focus solely on swing mechanics, I have grown up learning the fundamentals of course management, etiquette, and sportsmanship.
Along with golf, I also enjoy playing the piano and all aspects of the visual arts. While these skills may seem far from athletic, I believe that my artistic talents have helped to give me a unique view of the golf course. My favorite part of golf is putting, and I like to use my creativity to read tough greens. In challenging situations on the golf course, my imagination allows me to generate smart solutions.
Recently, I have accomplished my goal of shooting below par. I am always working to improve my golf skills. Mentally, I am working on learning to accept that some things are out of my control and I must be durable in tough times. Academically, I strive to maintain a high GPA. I am taking AP and honors classes during high school in order to prepare for the academic rigor of college.
In the future, I hope to be a part of a successful college golf program. I would like a team that collaborates and aims for victory. As a teammate, I would support and encourage each person to reach their goals. During my time as a collegiate student athlete, I would continue to excel in my academic interests, while being committed to my team and the game of golf.
