Hi coaches! My name is Camryn Wright. I live in Oconee County, which is right outside of Athens, Georgia. I stumbled upon my love for golf after retiring from years of high-level gymnastics. I fully believe that my time as a gymnast paved the way for my success in golf. I have been playing golf for a little more than 2 years and my average score is an 82.
My father has quite the obsession with the game of golf so I grew up seeing it on TV but I never really understood what was going on. I began playing golf with him just before my 9th grade year. I played in my first High School scramble as a Freshman before the schools were closed for Covid. I’m grateful the golf courses remained open during quarantine, because I was able to golf every single day. The summer of 2020 is when I realized that I LOVE golf.
My Sophomore year in High School I played in the #2 spot for North Oconee High School Varsity team. Our 2021 team finished 1st in the 4A State Championship, and I placed 9th individually. Our team advanced to play in the National Championship in Pinehurst, North Carolina. I was awarded All-State Honors for Georgia High School women's golf, and nominated for Female Golfer of the Year in our area. I gained two Camp Championships this summer playing at Achasta and Great Waters, along with winning a longest-drive competition.
I want to take my golf game to the next level and play college golf. I am looking forward to attending a University that will challenge me both athletically and academically. I plan to work incredibly hard both on the golf course and in the classroom. Beyond my golf career, I would like to pursue a degree in Business.
Being a gymnast taught me discipline, strength and flexibility. I am accustomed to lengthy practice times and the need for time management with academic requirements. I know how to compete under pressure. I understand that small, consistent progress is the root of success and that failing is part of the process. Thank you for your time and consideration and for reading this. I look forward to communicating with you soon.
