September 2020Hi, my name is Emma! I grew up playing many sports like basketball, football, and softball. Anything my older brothers would play, I would play. I was introduced to golf when I was little but didn’t pick it up competitively until high school. I started lessons in 7th grade and didn’t play my first 18 holes until the summer going into my freshman year. I got hooked on it and have been dedicated to improving my game ever since.
My freshman year I made the JV golf team. That year, I learned a lot about the game and set a goal to make varsity. In the offseason, I worked on getting a more consistent swing and improving my short game. The following year, I was thrilled to make varsity and compete in bigger tournaments. I was named most improved player of the team that year.
Although I loved the game, I was unsure if I wanted to play in college. At the sectional tournament this past season, I shot an 81 which put me in a position to try and qualify individually for state (my team tied for third spot to qualify but lost the scorecard playoff). My coach was preparing me for a tiebreaker on the putting green as the other competitors were finishing. That was one of the most nerve-wracking moments of my life but I loved every second of it. The excitement and competitive energy was awesome. I knew then that I wanted to continue playing for as long as possible.
My team has been a big reason that I fell in love with the game. I found some great friends who have helped me become a better player. My coaches helped me form good practice habits and mindsets to keep while I am playing. As a senior this year, I’m excited to lead my teammates and help them love the game like I do. I am involved in multiple clubs at my school that have given me opportunities to become a better leader. I was also selected to be on a leadership council that taught me new perspectives and ideas on being a better leader in a team. I look forward to a great season with my team.
Overall, I have a true passion for golf and can’t imagine a future without the game of golf in it.
