Personal Statement

Throughout my life, my parents have exposed me to a variety of sports and activities, each contributing to my growth as an athlete, both physically and mentally. I thrive on being part of a team, collaborating with others to achieve common goals. My journey to finding my niche began about 6 years ago when my parents enrolled me in golf programs offered by park districts and Jr. PGA leagues. There was an inexplicable connection I felt on the golf course—a thrill that resonated deep within me.

Driven by this newfound passion, I joined the high school golf team, stepping into an entirely new realm of competition. My first meet was a varsity 18-hole tournament featuring 12+ teams. I vividly recall the mixture of overwhelming excitement and nervousness I felt as I teed off. Unfortunately, I achieved a 109, marking a personal high for the season. This initial experience served as a valuable lesson, igniting my determination to refine my skills and emerge as a leader within the team.

With unwavering dedication, guidance from coaches, and exposure to competitive tournaments, I steadily improved. Ending my freshman season with a personal low of 85 on the same course where I began and becoming the sole varsity freshman sectional qualifier for the team. My progress is undeniable. As I worked on my game through my sophomore year I decreased my scores even more. Even shooting even par on 9, and a couple tournaments under 80. I turned my personal low from my freshman year, 85, into my now average score. However, I've come to understand that golf is not just a physical game it is also a mental game. Though I continue to struggle with this aspect, I'm committed to applying techniques taught by my coach to foster my mental game.

My coaches often mention how coachable I am, as I'm always open to their advice and work hard to put it into action. I know there's always something to learn, especially from people with more experience. So, I stay open to feedback and keep pushing myself to improve.

As I look ahead, I'm eager to join a team that embraces my passions and provides an environment conducive to athletic, academic and personal growth. I aspire to be an indispensable asset to the team, school, and community I represent.

  • Tournament Score 2 under par --- Course Yardage 5,000 yards--- Slope 119/Rating 68.7 This was a scramble format that I played with another Sophomore from my school. We have four high Schools in our city and each school had 6 golfers and 3 teams each. Our school won the Lady Cat Cup and my partner and I won third place out of 12 teams at 2 under par. I was striking the ball exceptionally well and my putts were fantastic. So excited for the upcoming weeks

  • Tournament Score 84 --- Course Yardage 5,120 yards--- Slope 118/Rating 69.7 11th Place Finish again but this time out of over 120 girls. Course was really wet but I did fairly well. I was hitting drives very well and putting better today. I almost sank two chips as they lipped the cup. Our team finished 1st out of 22 teams of 6 girls each. I felt I could have shot better, however the day dragged on as it was over 6 hours to complete. I did drive a 260 yard par 4 and birdied it. Overall very proud of the day.

  • Conference Match 9 hole score 44 --- Course Yardage 5,326 yards--- Slope 118/Rating 70.8 First outing against a conference opponent this year afterschool. I can say I was a bit tired after being in school. This was a windy day and there is no relief from wind on this course. I struck the ball fairly well and chipping was pretty good. I struggled again on putting on this course. We ended up winning this conference match by over 90 shots.

  • Tournament Score 77 --- Course Yardage 5,000 yards--- Slope 119/Rating 68.7 11th Place Finish out of 100 girls. Personal best day for me. Course was wet but I did well. I was hitting drives very well and putting was spot on. I did pretty good chipping. The best score of the day was 71 and I shot 77. Out of about 18 schools, our team came in 2nd place.

  • Tournament Score 102--- Course Yardage 5,453 yards--- Slope 124/Rating 72.1 3rd Place Finish within age group. Very tough day for me. Struggled with the heat most of the day. I was not hitting drives that well and did ok on chips. I really had a tough time putting. I had way too many 3 putts. It was pretty hot out and I tried to stay hydrated. I felt that even though this was a little bit of a set back in score I realized that I need to ensure a good nights sleep the night before and drink plenty of water on the course. https://ijga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/ijga24/event/ijga24117/contest/13/leaderboard.htm

  • Tournament Score 78--- Course Yardage 5,000 yards--- Slope 123/Rating 64.9 Heritage Bluffs 2nd Place Finish within age group. Would have been third place if in with the older girls as this made me very proud. Overall played very well. I started off with a 42 on the front nine. Felt I was hitting the ball pretty well but missed a few putts that I probably should have made. It was pretty hot out and I tried to stay hydrated. The back nine, this is where I really dialed it in. Every drive was in great shape and felt so confident. I was striking the ball the best I have and shot my best score ever at even par on the back nine. I actually 3 putted the 16th par three or I could have been 1 under par. I was dripping wet by the time we were done but had sooo much confidence and was super excited. I actually shot the best back score 9 out of everyone in the tournament and it was I felt the tougher nine as the back is more target golf. https://ijga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/ijga24/pc/round/view.htm?sid=d7986cdc-81c8-4d8f-b647-5b8c729b66bc

  • IJGA / PLAYING MEMBER STROKE PLAY #13 @ WEDGEWOOD
  • 6/10/24 to 6/10/24
  • Tournament Score 88--- Course Yardage 4,950--- Slope 114/Rating 67.6--- 6th of 9 for ages (14-15), however performed better than many girls in 16-18. --- Avg tournament score was 92.49, and older girls avg was 90.78. Nice day on course. Began pushing my shots to the right, especially my woods and ended up with a 46 on the front. I made small adjustment to grip and finished the back nine with a 42. Greens were decent speed and these greens had a lot of breaks. Very difficult to read breaks and speed. Fairways were in good shape but very firm. Putted OK but still need to work on putting. Every course played this season the greens have been so different. https://ijga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/ijga24/event/ijga24132/contest/9/contestant/3/scorecard.htm

  • Tournament Score 88--- Course Yardage 5,000--- Slope 121/Rating 70.2--- tied 5th of 9 for ages (14-15), however performed better than many girls in 16-18. --- Avg tournament score was 90.38, and older girls avg was 91.28. Very windy day on course. Struggled with a bad start and ended up with a 47 on the front. I shook it off and finished the back nine with a 41. I built up confidence on the back and the last 3 holes all pars. Greens were decent speed but wind certainly affected some of the putts. Fairways were in good shape. Putted OK but still need to work on putting. It is "cicada time" in northern Illinois and I am quite a bit freaked out by these bugs and they were all over course. https://ijga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/ijga24/event/ijga2491/contest/1/contestant/108/scorecard.htm

  • Tournament Score 33--- Course Yardage 700--- Slope/Rating N/A--- 2nd of 11 --- Avg tournament score was 37.5. Cool day on course. Temps were in the 50's. Greens were very slow. Very soft and mushy around the course. Putted OK for slow greens. On hole #9 hit a great shot, but unfortunately caught the one little limb that overhung the green. Should have been able to par the last hole. https://ijga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/ijga24/event/ijga244/contest/9/contestant/71/scorecard.htm

Very soft and mushy around the course. Struggled on putting on really slow greens. On hole #2 was within 16 inches of a Hole in one. https://ijga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/ijga24/event/ijga243/contest/5/leaderboard.htm

  • Tournament Score --- Course Yardage --- Slope/Rating --- Place taken out of number of competitors --- Summary of event 74-72 ---- 6,950 yards --- 72.8/139 --- 2/59 players --- The course played tough as there was a lot of rain the night before so the fairways were soft, but so were the greens so it took a little bit of time to get the speed and reaction of the greens. I hit 22/28 fairways and 26/36 fairways over the two days. Definitely want to improve my ability to hit greens and take advantage of the birdie opportunities.
