Personal Statement
My name is Sylvia Floyd, I am a sophomore at Huron High School in New Boston, M where I just completed my 2nd season on the varsity golf team. I just started golfing last summer (June 2015) but have played competitive sports since I was 8 years old. I played AAA hockey for Belle Tire and Compuware, both in Detroit, which is the highest level of hockey in the USA., Was captain of my hockey team and also a state champion. During my hockey career I was also invited to Toronto, Ca for Rush Hockey invitational which selects top hockey players from North America for a weekend showcase.
As for my golf, I am a very competitive golfer and love the pressure and challenges it brings. I think if you were to ask my coach he would say that one of my biggest attributes is that I am mentally tough. I do not get rattled, I keep my emotions in check, and am able to focus in pressure situations. Although I'm still learning and working hard everyday I have had some early success in my golf career. I finished as the medalist at my county championship (Monroe County, Michigan) shooting a low score 83. I also finished 2nd at my league meet with an 87. I average mid-high 80's. I also was selected as first team all league and all county my sophomore year.
I currently work with a swing coach, Scott Hayes, at Miles of Golf Kendall Academy in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I also am a certified USA Hockey referee and ref 2-3 games per week.
Academically I am working hard at improving my 3.0 GPA and see no reason it won't be mid 3.'s by end of this year!
