Personal Statement

"Talent is cheap, dedication is costly." -Brian Budish

This quote, said by our late athletic director, has become the motto for athletes at my school. These are words to live by, these are words to motivate, and these are words to humble you. These words have pushed me since I knew that golf is what I wanted to do. From the moment I stepped onto the course as a five year old, and all the way to now, golf is and forever will be my passion. My coaches and family have had an intense impact on my life. They push me to be the best athlete, student, leader, and woman that I possibly can be. Through our team winning the state championship three years in a row, to my own fourth and second place finishes in my freshman and sophomore year, I have learned that being a leader and building community are my strong suits. As a captain in my sophomore year I constantly strove to take that extra step, for myself, my team, and most importantly for God.

Academics are extremely important to me. I strive to be the best in all that I can on and off the course. As I finish out the last two years of high school I want to be an example to all other athletes of what it looks like to play sports year round, and be a student. I want to finish with a cumulative GPA of over 3.5 and finish with a 26 on my ACT. I constantly strive to have all schoolwork done to the best of my ability. In college, I want to earn mostly A's, with the potential for a few B's in there as well. My grades are something that I work for for myself. Though my parents push me, I earn my grades to prove to myself that I can accomplish all that I want to. I love to learn, and I believe that learning happens every moment of the day and that so often inspires me to branch out and discover what more I can discover.

Although I have not had to overcome any major obstacles, I have had to deal with cutting other things out of my life so that golf can be my focus. For years I was a volleyball player, a basketball player, a golfer, and a year round dancer. In my freshman year I began to see that golf was my true passion and that everything that I did needed to go toward bettering my golf career. I quit volleyball and basketball and cut down on dance classes so that golf could become my year round focus. I have been told multiple times from teachers, teammates, and my coaches that I am a natural leader and people instinctively follow me. I am so thankful that not only do I have this talent, but that I have this talent so that I may be able to bring glory to God. My relationship with God is the most important thing to me, and I believe that the characteristics of a godly leader shine through me in all that I do.
