Hello, my name is Izzie Van Beck, and I going to be a Senior at Melrose Area High School in Minnesota. I have only been playing golf since seventh grade, however as I made my way to the number one spot on our varsity team in my freshmen year, I realized how much I loved the sport and wanted a future with it.
Although I have had some trials and tribulations throughout my time with golf, with my hard work and dedication, I have never given up. I have good attributes that help me in life, and I have learned some of these lessons from my first cousin, Paige Bueckers. She was a Division One basketball player at Uconn and now with the Dallas Wings (WNBA), and she has taught me about hard work and battling through adversity. I am eager to learn more about golf from people that can teach me, however I already possess some innate qualities that are unteachable, and they include hard work, determination, commitment, and discipline. I have had these traits since I've been young, but they have been more evident in the last few years as I've dedicated more time to the game of golf.
As for golf scores and lessons, my best 18-hole score this year in my Junior high school season was 78, my best 9-hole score was 39. I placed 4th in my conference and my team placed 2nd. On the first day of my section golf tournament I shot 82, and the second day I shot 39 as we only played nine holes due to weather, tying for 2nd place. In the MN State High School tournament, I shot my best score of 78 on the first day and on the second day I shot an 80, tying for 6th place. This season I put in a lot of work and played a lot of golf. I took golf lessons two winters ago (2023-2024) with Sam Christenson through Scott Dirks Academy. This past winter (2024-2025) I took lessons with PGA Professional Scott Dirk. I am continuing my lessons with Scott Dirk through the summer and continue to learn more about golf and keep looking at ways to improve.
Outside of golf, I am involved in leading a bible study at my school, managing the varsity girls' basketball team, and filming for the varsity football team at my high school. Some of my hobbies include working out, hunting and fishing, going in my ice bath and sauna, playing football, and spending time with family and friends.
I am searching for a college where I can compete and continue to grow as an athlete while pursuing a degree in Physical Education. I am excited to make connections, explore possibilities, and see where God takes me.
