I've been surrounded by golf since I was 6 years old. My first introduction was through the First Tee, a golf program that reinforces life skills along with golf etiquette. I advanced rapidly through the program, eventually reaching a skill level that allowed me to take on the title of ‘coach’ - allowing me to give back to the program that introduced me to the sport. I feel at home on the golf course, an environment that has allowed me to thrive both on the course, and in the classroom. The First Tee has strengthened many of my values, and allowed me to discover who I am, and what path I would like to follow. The next step in that path is competing at the college level.
I have competed in the First Tee, Jr. PGA, and OJGA (Oregon Junior Golf Association) junior golf tournaments, and at the high school level, where I started on the varsity team as a freshman. Participating in these organizations and playing at the high school level have prepared me to succeed at the collegiate level. One of the most valuable life skills I learned was communication. Golf has given me the confidence to interact with people of diverse backgrounds and ages, along with the important skill of persevering and being dedicated to every task that lies ahead of me.
