Personal Statement

I am Morgan Sohosky and I am a student at Bloomsburg High school in Bloomsburg, PA. My current GHIN handicap index is 5. My dad is a PGA professional and has been teaching me since I have been able to hold a golf club. I started competing when I was 5 and I have been winning multiple tournaments yearly since I was 5. I won my high school district championship as a freshman, sophomore and junior. I qualified for the State Championship as a freshman, sophomore, and junior playing as the #2 seed as a freshman and #1 seed as a sophomore, junior and senior on a boys team. I also won the PIAA East Regional championship as a junior.

On another note, I have been working very hard at my academics as well, maintaining above a 98 average. My goal is to enter aeronautical engineering for my undergraduate degree. However, for the remainder of high school I look forward to being inducted into the National Honor Society and also doing lots to help the community like community service and helping with programs we have for younger students in elementary & middle school in the summertime.

Morgan Sohosky of Frosty Valley Country Club, who still has 3 years of NCPGA eligibility, finished off her successful season with a 75. After a poor front nine, Sohosky fired a 33 on the back nine to salvage an excellent round, and one of the best years of anyone on the tour.

I made it to the semifinals where I played the #1 seed and I shot 68, the best score of my life, but still lost 2&1. My opponent shot 66. The only other upset of the day came from 5-seed Morgan Sohosky. She and 4th-seeded Vincent Bender went back and forth for 20 intense holes until Sohosky put her tee shot to 2 feet on the second playoff hole, leading her to the win. 3rd-seeded Tanner Adriance reached the semifinals without much trouble. Thursday’s first round welcomed some sensational play. In the beatens bracket, 12th-seeded Roman Reeder beat 8-seed Tyler Nordblom 5&3 by shooting even par for 15 holes on the challenge course. 10th seed Carter Reichenbach overcame 11th seed Nate Ewing by winning 1 up. In the winners’ bracket, Matt Storeman was -4 after 15 to beat Tanner Adriance 5&3. Meanwhile, William Knauth shot a magnificent round of 6-under 66 to inch out Morgan Sohosky, who fired a 4-under 68 of her own on the challenge course for the lowest round of her life.

Morgan Sohosky of Tee-To-Green Golf Center took first place with a 73, and will have the honor of joining the prestigious group of NCPGA junior golfers to have their names etched on the plaque proudly displayed at the Club. Sohosky is the first female golfer to ever win the top flight of the tournament. Morgan led the way amongst the 12 golfers in the 18 Hole Advanced division, tying Quinn Hackenberg of Shade Mountain G.C., then winning on the first hole of a sudden death playoff. Tyoga Country Club’s Benjamin Barnett and River Valley Country Club’s Tanner Adriance followed closely behind, firing stellar rounds of 75 to tie for third. White Deer’s Vincent Bender and last week’s winner Matthew Storeman of Clinton C.C. carded rounds of 77 to cap off a competitive top flight.
