Typical Golfing Teen? Strong Personality? Just Another Pretty Face? You decide.
I, since entering high school, have been through a golf program where everything was utterly silly (this program is currently going on it’s third golf coach), divorce, moving out of my childhood home, leaving my friends, moving to a town with no golf course, switching to a new school who did not want a golf program, and totaled my car.
I feel I know about prayer and standing up for myself along with the sport of golf.
When I was a freshman there were 15 lady golfers that I competed with to be one of five to go to seven, two day tournaments. I qualified to go to all seven. At my new school, I was asked to prove myself in golf to Shiner I.S.D. that I had what it took for them to form a golf program for me to be their ONLY golfer. I did this. I have permission to practice during athletic period, 2 times a week (during golf season only) for 45 minutes which includes changing my clothes, getting my clubs out of my trunk, walking to the range in the public park with my clubs, hitting, shagging my balls, then to do the reverse of it all while making it to my next class. There are no other allowed practices. So, therefore I drive and practice alone, after school at the nearest golf course 20 minutes, one way.
With keeping all of the above mentioned in mind, I am in N.H.S., all honors classes with a G.P.A. of 3.6, got 1st place in District, 2nd in Regionals, and at State in Austin finished 30th all in my sophomore year of ‘solo golf’.
I hear other golfers, at the tournaments I compete in, complain about their coaches “making” them practice, try harder, or stay later. I just can’t imagine having that opportunity.
I also, this summer, managed two lifeguarding jobs while being a member of a swim league where I advanced to State on two relays.
These life experiences make me who I am, a strong, enduring female on and off the course.
