March 2014I am Kristin Boone. I’m a senior at Rider High School in Wichita Falls Texas. At Rider, I’m in the marching band and on the golf team. When I was nine years old, I was diagnosed with Hip Perthes Disease. Perthes limits my flexibility and stamina in my left hip. This diagnosis posed a great obstacle and challenge to me athletically. Good thing I love a challenge! I love golf, and so early on, I made this obstacle into a challenge. I decided I will overcome this diagnosis and remain competitive. My golf swing is not like most golfers. I worked with Stephen Johnson, a Golf Professional, who helped me develop a swing using my upper body.In order to develop the strength and technique necessary, I weight train three times a week. I bench press 200 pounds, flat track walk 1 ½ miles with 2 ½ pounds ankle weights, and stretching to improve flexibility 4 times a week. I love a challenge that’s why I love golf. I’m looking forward to the next level of challenges offered to college athletes.
