Personal Statement

My name is Mika Cichosz and I am a 2025 left-handed defenseman and a captain on my hockey high school team. I first started playing hockey when I was three years old, I remember watching my two older brothers playing and I wanted to do the same. Ever since then my love for hockey has never stopped, it's not just the sport itself that I love, it is much more. Like the people I have met through this sport and the life lessons I have learned. Hockey has helped me develop into a responsible student-athlete and a leader who cares for the people around her.

I have learned through hockey that to be my best self and play my best, I need to take care of all aspects of myself. Which is something I feel I have really learned in the past few years. Not only do you have to take care of your body, but must also take care of your mental health. Your mind plays just as big a role as your body does in hockey. Hockey is a very quick game you don't have the time to dwell on your past shifts and the mistakes you made. You have to be able to let it go and focus on your next shift. Every day I strive to become a better hockey player, teammate, and person.
