My name is Olivia Van Siclen. I am 16 years old and go to Henry Sibley High School. I am currently a junior and will graduate in 2022. I have played hockey since I was a little girl, following in both of my brothers footsteps. I have always had a passion for hockey, always wanting to get better. This passion started with my brothers. Being the little sister, I wanted to always play with them. We would spend hours in the driveway playing street hockey. This was what led me to my drive for hockey.
My 8th grade year, I tried out for my high school team and made jv. Not too long into the season, I was brought up to play varsity. The next year, my freshman year, I made varsity. Additional to playing hockey, my freshman year I decided to pick up tennis. Although this was my first time picking up a racket, I thrived on jv tennis. The summer before my Sophomore year, I kept with tennis. I ended up lettering in Varsity tennis with only a season of experience. My old tennis coach said I was able to pick up the sport so quickly because of my strong athleticism.
For the 2020-21 season, I have been selected as a Junior captain for the Saint Paul/Sibley Riveters.
I have always wanted to be the best. I have and always will challenge myself. I believe that my determination is what has made my athletic and academic success. My freshman year, I received the Most Improved Player award for hockey. I will continue to push myself throughout my life to reach my high goals. At the end of my Sophomore season, I was one of the top goal and point scorers on my team. While we were not the most successful team, I always gave 110% and helped lead my team to the wins that we did achieve. My goal for college is to attend a very good school where I can further better not only my academic skills, but also my hockey skills.
I am young for my grade, but that has not stopped me from being one of the top people in my class. I have always been in all the accelerated classes, math is where I am the strongest. I have achieved a 4.0 GPA my freshman year, taking all of the advanced classes. Some awards I received my freshman year were Student of the Month, Perfect Attendance, and received an academic letter. I finished Sophomore year with a 4.104 weighted GPA. I took 2 AP classes, AP world history and AP biology, and I also took Advanced Language Arts. Currently I am taking AP Calculus BC, AP Chemistry, AP United States History, and college level Spanish 4. My goal is to find a college that will push my academic and athletic skills as far as they can go.
