My name is Avary Sick and I am going to be a Senior at Legacy High School in Bismarck, North Dakota. I have been playing hockey since I was six and I am not ready to be done. I love to be there for my team and encourage them to be the best versions of themselves, while doing the same. I am proud to reflect on my journey as both a dedicated student and a passionate hockey player. The rink has always been my second home, where I've been able to develop my skills, make lifelong friendships, and learn lessons in teamwork and perseverance that have helped me not only on the ice but also in the classroom.I have been employed with Parks and Recreation in our town, working at the rinks and pools for the last two years. When I am not training or working, I also help coach our Introduction to Hockey program and recently started coaching 12U boys and girls camps.
I've been privileged to wear the jersey of the newly formed Legacy/Bismarck Girls High School team, where I've grown not only as a player but also as a leader. Being selected as one of the captains for my senior year shows my dedication and commitment to the sport and my teammates. I take great pride in leading by example, both on and off the ice. I plan to help create a culture of hard work, sportsmanship, and resilience. Besides leadership and positivity, I have excellent hockey sense, on ice awareness and am very coachable. As a coach once described me during a pre-game show, "The epitome of the perfect teammate" (Tony Swearingen,11/29/23).
Looking ahead, my goal is to continue my hockey career beyond high school at a higher level that will allow me to push myself, while working towards my academic goals. I am hard-working and driven, and I know that with dedication and perseverance, anything is possible.
I am excited about the opportunities ahead, and I have grown confident in my ability to make a positive impact both on and off the ice.
