Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Lauren Carmody.  I am sixteen years old and am currently a sophomore at Eau Claire Memorial high school in Eau Claire Wisconsin. I have four siblings. My identical twin sister, a brother, and another set of older identical twin sisters.  I have been in athletics, including hockey, since the age of four. My sporting career has been unique, as I have an identical twin sister that has competed with me on all the teams we have played on since youth league. We both have excelled at our age level since our early years. I feel that I differ from others as I played in the boys youth hockey league from mini mite through our bantam years prior to high school. We always made the top tier team. We were instrumental in helping our team take the Wisconsin state title our Peewee year. I still continue to play with the high school boys during my off season. We were noticed in Detroit while playing for the U14 Team Wisconsin and were asked to participate in Toronto at the Rush Hockey Showcase. This event triggered more exposure to the competitive side of the sport along with new acquaintances including my current AAA tier 1 team the Minnesota Revolution that we play on now during our off season. At age fifteen, we were asked to play up at the the U19 competition level. We have been playing at this level throughout Canada and the United States, playing against many D1 and D3 commit hockey players, ever since. This has been a great experience for me. I hope to continue to excel with hard work to eventually play at the collegiate level.

Besides hockey my other interest are soccer, and tennis. I have been playing travel soccer since the age of nine and have taken our team to the state finals several times. This past soccer season I played on our high school varsity team as a freshman. As a sophomore I made our high schools varsity tennis team and was fortunate enough to make it to team state. My tennis team voted my twin sister and I for the “hustle award.”

When I’m not playing sports I am busy studying. My parents have emphasized academics as a priority since kindergarten. I am an avid reader and enjoy the sciences. I have always been an A student and currently average a 3.8 GPA at our class A school with AP curriculum. I also enjoy music and have played percussion since the sixth grade. I continue to play in my high school band and marching band. I have many goals, one of which is to have a professional career in the health science as a medical doctor. My father is a cardiac surgeon and it has been fascinating to shadow him at work and get to see how the world of medicine works as a team much the same way as my athletic teams.

My other interest is our families hobby farm where we grow and manage various nectar crops for our bees to produce honey. We collect honey and pollen and sell it at the local stores in our town. It has introduced me to business at a micro level. It has been enlightening to take something from an idea to ultimately putting a product on the shelf for the public to consume.

I also enjoy fitness. For the last four years my twin sister and I have worked regularly with the same trainer at Momentum Crossfit to strengthen our core and give us the stamina to excel against our competition. This has helped me to avoid injury. I have found that it has given me a lot more energy and an edge against my competition. I rarely get fatigued. At our crossfit training center my sister and I competed as a team in the National Festivus games for our region. We took first place at the novice level.

My character is sound. I have always had a "team first" attitude. I will always put the team ahead of myself and do what my coach feels would be best for the team with the ultimate goal to win. I feel very strongly that I can be a tremendous asset to a hockey team. I hope I can someday play for your team. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me!
