I only started rowing this season, but I immediately fell in love with the sport. Pushing my physical and mental limits has been incredibly fulfilling for me but, coming from a more individual sport (Alpine Skiing), the camaraderie and team environment of rowing is what really amazed me. Being surrounded by other strong athletes who not only support and push each other but also make the hard, painful practices fun has been the experience of a lifetime for me and I want to continue to be a part of such a community.
My background in skiing has not only provided me with the physical foundation to succeed in rowing, but it has also made me extremely self-motivated and hardworking through long training sessions in the freezing cold and late-night workouts in the gym by myself. Additionally, it has given me a deep sense of gratitude and appreciation to now be able to be in a boat with 8 other girls as we all work towards a common goal together through ups and downs.
I show up to practice every day thinking about how lucky I am to have this new opportunity in a new sport and that mindset drives me to never waste a single stroke. I know I started later than most and I’m on the shorter side but I am determined to not let that become a disadvantage for me or my team by making up for it with my work ethic and passion. I’ve only just gotten started and I’m eager to see how far I can go!
