I started rowing my freshmen year due to Covid-19, and at first I didn’t know how I felt about this sport. I was still playing soccer and running cross country at the time, but the thing that made me fall in love with this sport is the commitment and dedication that it takes. Before crew I loved the sports that I played, but never would have wanted to put in the amount of work and effort that I have for crew. My head coach, Allison Ray, talks about how trust is a vital aspect of this sport, how trust is how you build a strong and fast team. I strongly believe that my team, Oakland Strokes, has created an environment where everyone trusts each other and where the people on my team have truly become a part of my family and some of the best friends I could ever ask for. Whatever college I commit to, I plan to bring the same amount of commitment, trust, and love for this sport with me.
