Leadership is the ability to understand and define the goals for the team, while understanding the strengths and weaknesses of both myself and my teammates, and continually motivating my team towards success, by creating strong bonds and encompassing an intention within the group. My rowing team means the world to me, as it is a strong community of girls and boys working together to achieve the same goals. The rowing team is an important part of my life, as it motivates me everyday to become a better version of myself. Not only does this apply to rowing through bettering my erg scores and becoming more technically proficient but also applies to my behavior off the water. The team inspires me to better myself outside of the boathouse, by becoming a self-driven student with my studies, and having the same winning attitude by always trying my best throughout any task. Another valuable part of the rowing team is the availability of any teammate, meaning that each teammate is always willing to help. I am always able to count on my teammates, with the knowledge that everyone cares about the wellbeing of one another. The team is a family. My goals for this team are to ultimately better our performance individually and collectively, create a better team environment, and ultimately win. During our races, I will motivate my teammates, help create a desire to win for both their erg scores and races on the water, as well as lead my teammates when certain races or workouts are challenging. I will inspire my teammates through anything that motivates them, whether it be a simple pep talk, or cheering them on during an erg challenge to name a few. Each person is inspired differently, and I plan to learn the needs of my teammates, so they can give their best effort. In addition, I aspire to help the team in creating a better team dynamic, in which every teammate feels heard and part of the team. I want to help the communication between the team. The team environment is an integral part to our success as a team because it creates a stronger bond, in which we can all use to be successful, as it helps us to better understand our goals as a team. The effort each teammate puts out at practice or during races is for more than just the individual, but also for the team as a whole. As team captain, I listen to every teammates’ concerns or questions and guarantee a genuine and sincere response or solution. I focus on creating a better environment through team building, so that everyone feels part of the entire team, which ultimately will better the team spirit and will as a result improve our results, by creating more fluidity throughout it. I plan things with the team while at the boathouse as well as outside the boathouse to create a sense of unity. In addition, I am available to work with the teams as individuals and a group. I also work with the coaches to implement their goals for the team and how they see us growing. Something unique about me is my crave to win at any task or challenge that lays before me, through the dedication and work I put towards accomplishing my goals. Whether it be athletic, academic, or artistic, I have a drive to win and be my best at anything I do. My personal goal, throughout my rowing career at Pine Crest, is to be recruited at the collegiate level, and I will do anything to reach my goal. Similar to the goals for the team as a whole, I want us to win, and I will do everything possible as a possible captain to ensure our victories at regattas. My grit and determination is something unique about me, as I will not stop at anything until I reach my goal. My parents always had a saying for me growing up, “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop.” This still applies to me today and every activity I set my mind to performing.
