I joined my rowing team at the very start of my freshman year in 2021. I almost immediately became a coxswain because of my height and size but enjoyed my role even more as the season went on. My freshman year is when I developed my Coxing voice. As someone who started out quiet and nervous, my team was very excited by this new found confidence and has shown me how important this aggression is when motivating a boat. When I first started out I would watch and listen to coxswain recordings like it was homework. I am always wanting to improve my skills and my goal is to never stop learning how to boost my boats the best that I can. For the majority of my freshman year I was the coxswain for the Men's team and have had many successful races and medals with them. I even coxed my Mens JV 4+ to SRAA nationals 2023 in Oak Ridge, TN. Coxing both the men's and women's teams this year has taught me how to cater my calls and cadence to best benefit the rowers in my boat. In 2024, I took a women’s J8+ to SRAAs in Camden. I have a passion for coxing and racing. We currently practice five times a week. Balancing this on top of being a student in the IB program makes me feel that I am prepared for the schedule I would have when coxing in college. I thrive from feedback from my rowers. Being on such a close knit team these past 3 years has made me hope for a similar experience in college. Due to the fact that my team is not funded by my school, we often will have fundraisers that I participate in. My junior year I was a captain on my team and helped to plan many of these fundraisers. Since we work so hard for the things that we have, I have learned how to take very good care of our boats, oars, and coxing equipment. I am grateful for everything that I have learned since being on this team and I hope to learn more in my last year and after.
