My name is Chloe Ryder, and I have been rowing since middle school. I started rowing during quarantine. While at first I didn't get to experience the energy of regattas or the synchrony of rowing in an eight, I appreciated the hard work and attention to detail that the sport required. Several years later, I cannot imagine my life without rowing. Rowing has taught me the discipline to finish my workouts even when they get tough, as well as the time management skills to balance my schoolwork with daily practices. Not to mention, it has provided me with an outlet for expression, an escape, and—most importantly—lifelong friendships. Nothing brings people closer than rowing a quad together or lending a shoulder to lean on after a tough erg set. Starting rowing was the best decision of my life, and rowing in college would allow me to pursue the sport I love at a higher level and to connect with new people who share my passion.
