Personal Statement
I was introduced to rowing in 2016 when I joined Atlanta Juniors Rowing Association’s developmental team. I was looking for something that would challenge me both physically and mentally. Now three years later, as a rising 11th grader on the Varsity women’s team, rowing is my passion.
Some of my closest friends are rowers. Together we strive to meet the challenges each practice, no matter how difficult it is. We understand the goal of training properly and using our bodies and minds to do our best at every competition. There is no better feeling than finishing strong, knowing we worked as a team, giving it 100%.
Rowing had taught me so much about what it takes to overcome exhaustion, to maintain focus, to push myself beyond what I thought I was physically capable of doing. This positive mindset helps me excel in school and tackle not only honors but AP classes- I scored a 4 on my AP Human Geography exam last year-but the subjects that perhaps don’t come naturally to me. Besides rowing, my other passion is music. I have been playing the violin since I was in 3rd grade. I am in the Roswell High School Phil Harmonic Orchestra and was one of the youngest members of the Atlanta Piedmont Junior Symphony in 2016-2017.
Rowing has taught me to be consistent and know that I can achieve anything if I try my very best every time. I hope that determination will help me achieve success in College and as a member of a rowing team. That would be a dream come true.
