Tayla Malcolmson '24 Recruiting Profile

Hi, my name is Tayla Malcolmson. I am a student at Macleans College in Auckland, New Zealand. 

I'm looking to join a rowing programme at a University that has access to high-performance coaching and facilities to further my passion and drive for rowing. I thrive in a positive environment with like-minded athletes and never shy away from a challenge. My introduction to rowing started 4 years ago after always having a love for the water.

The enjoyment of being part of a school team and then having been selected for the Auckland Light Blues rowing team to compete at the New Zealand interprovincial championships, as well as finishing 3rd at the New Zealand National Championships in a single reinforced my desire to keep the rowing dream and journey alive. I am self-motivated and determined and show strong leadership skills, this had been developed from 7 years of competitive Taekwondo which included instructing classes and guiding younger students. After receiving my black belt I knew my next step was to be a part of a team environment, and this is where I believe rowing is the best fit.
