Hey-hey coaches! My name is Olivia Horvath. I am 16 years old and am part of the 2026 graduating class at Andover High School.
My current aspirations for rowing in college are to be part of a medium-sized team and to perform at my top capacity. I would love to be a part of a Division 2 school, but am also open to considering Division 3 schools, or even a highly competitive club; all offer great value and opportunities.
By nature, I am great at collaborating even if I am a highly competitive person. I strive to be the best at whatever I am doing - regardless if there is even a “best” at doing such things. I found rowing in the Summer of eighth grade, wasn't really a sports person per se before, and I was completely absorbed by it on the first day. The competition, the learning new form based techniques while lifting, or, just being in the boat itself. Oh, and making friends through the sport is a perk.
This Summer, I participated in a 7 week medium/high intensity rowing program with Coach Mike Kapp. Practice started at 5:45 AM sharp and ended after 8 AM. At first, I was weary about it being that early, but soon began to want to practice longer. By week 3, I added in afternoon training- between lifting days at my local gym. Then most days I ended up going back to the boathouse for another row. In the last week of the 7 week program, my women’s jr 8+ boat placed 1st at the Sweeps and Skulls Regatta in Providence, Rhode Island. I’ve never felt such a wave of success! As a group we put in 7 weeks, 5 days a week, of effort for the results we wanted.
Even if I was scared at first, I didn’t give up, and I will never give up- it’s not in my nature.
My goal for this upcoming year is to get my 2k into the 7:50-7:45 range.
