It is my hope to become to a psychiatrist one day. Within that journey, I would love to be able to be a coxswain for my collegiate team. I am currently a coxswain for a high school aged club team and enjoy being able to inspire and motivate my fellow rowers. Being a coxswain enables me to utilize my leadership skills gained via JROTC and improve my own confidence. I feel that I am a good candidate for a college's rowing team because I not only have experience in the coxswain seat, but I also have had experience as a rower. This has allowed me to gain first hand experience in what my rowers might be feeling during a race. In addition, I have also had the opportunity to have great coaching during my high school years so far within this sport. They have increased my skills to not only understand how to direct my rowers with the needed commands, but also how to be motivational in order to keep up boat morale and energy.
I am also very committed to my academic grades. I have high aspirations and am able to be focused and make good use of my time in order to keep my academic and sport demands in check. Before becoming a rower, I was a gymnast who was required to be in the gym about 16 hours a week. This forced me to learn how to effectively manage my time.
These are some of the reasons why I feel that I would be a good candidate for a college's rowing team. I look forward to being able to speak to various colleges in order to find the right fit for me within the sport of rowing as well as for my future.
