Personal statement
Hi! My name is Kylie Hinderliter and I am a senior at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s. I recently discovered rowing as my true passion and have not looked back. I aspire to row in college and become the best athlete and person I can be.
I have played softball for 10 years and played competitively at the national club level since middle school. I also played for my high school team my freshman and sophomore year. My plan was always to play softball in college until I found a new opportunity within rowing.
My junior year of high school I decided to join the rowing team at my school when I was no longer going to play softball for the high school team. I quickly fell in love with it and it brought out a new passion and competitive drive in me. As I worked through the season and throughout the summer I realized that rowing was what I truly loved and what I wanted to pursue in my future. I made the difficult decision to leave behind the sport I had played my whole life to put all my energy into rowing.
I have never been more happy with a decision. Rowing has taught me so many new things about myself and connected me with incredible people. I believe my experience with softball taught me the skills of hard work, dedication, and perseverance, which I have seen translate into my rowing career. I hope to find a spot on a collegiate team that I can make a difference on, where I can continue to better myself and those around me.
