My name is Sophie Tawney, and I’ve been rowing since June 2019. This sport has challenged me both mentally and physically and has also been the most rewarding thing I’ve ever been a part of. It has taught me how to lead, work with others, communicate, balance athletics and academics, and adapt to change. On top of that, it has also given me a sense of community that I know I can always rely on and has inspired me to challenge myself academically as well as just athletically. I would love to have the opportunity to continue this journey in college.
Some highlights from my time in this sport are winning our State Championships in our WJV4+ in 2023 as well as finishing in 5th place at the 2023 National Championships in the same boat. Getting to nationals was our main goal all season, and to finish that well in finals after all of the hours we had put in and the obstacles we had overcome was an incredible experience that I’ll never forget.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you,
Sophie Tawney
