I'm Allie Rivera I'm a coxswain for the buffalo seminary crew team. Currently I am in my junior year and last year I was voted in for captain. I first fell in love with crew when we were coming out of covid my 6th grade year. My first day they sat me right in a boat with no instructions. I was completely filled with fear. I was 12 years old in a boat with 17 year-olds who I feared as much as I admired. I swore I would never go back because that was the most terrifying thing i've ever experienced, yet I kept coming back 5 days a week for the next 5 years. It wasn't till 9th grade when I started to take crew seriously. 9th grade I realized that if I put all my efforts in this sport I could be apart of something real. Crew has taught me not only how to be a part of a team but how to lead. I know I can rely on my teammates and I take comfort and pride in the fact my teammates rely on me as well. I am planning on majoring in mechanical engineering. I took physics freshman year and that is where I found my love for the science. I love the hands on aspect of mechanical engineering which is one of the reasons I was drawn to rowing specifically coxing. I found through coxing I could control the boat like a well oiled machine. I am strong academically and I take the most challenging courses available, as well as facilitating my own learning through online AP's.
