Hi! My name is Julianna Franklin, I am 16 years old and I row on Port rowing in Port Washington New York. I joined in June of 2021 and I have improved drastically, and plan to continue. I have fallen in love with this sport not only because I truly enjoy it but because of the work ethic it has taught me. I became a better student and importantly a better athlete. I have moved my way up with my teammates and found joy in working together with the girls in my boat. In my first 3 weeks of joining the team and because of my vast improvement on the water, my coach sent me to club nationals where I competed in a U17 4 in 2 seat. The rush I got from racing made me fall deeper in love with this sport and that is when I knew I wanted to continue in college.
I continued working on my skills throughout the seasons and I now row in the 1v 8+ often in six seat or stroke seat. I hope I can further improve throughout college and become the best rower and teammate I can be.
Over my first, and most recent, spring season my 1v 8+ qualified for US rowing Youth Nationals, with me in stroke seat, where we placed 5th in the D final. I am excited to attend nationals next year with even more strength and determination with my teammates.
I am now a stroke seat of every boat I row in. I believe my coach puts me in stroke seat because I have control and strength to keep the boat together. I am quick off the start and always ready for the last sprint of the race.
