Personal Statement
Dear Coaches,
When I first became involved in the sport, I never thought it would become as much of a part of my life as it has! I started rowing in the fall of 2013 when my sister who was coaching at the time invited me to tag along with her to a practice. I remember from the first time I watched a varsity crew gliding along the water I thought to myself, “I want to be able to do that.” From that point on I spent my mornings, afternoons, and summers getting better and better at the sport that I fell in love with.
Rowing has shaped me as a person as it has taught me to persevere in situations that seem hopeless, to have courage and confidence when you feel you will not be able to succeed, how to lead others, and how to think smart and keep calm in even the hardest situations.
Since the beginning of my rowing career, I have learned how to defeat the odds. For example in middle school I was much smaller than most other rowers but through my perseverance and courage I was able to make myself stand out to my coaches and land myself in the varsity boats. My leadership skills combined with the confidence I have gained overtime is what resulted in me being the youngest varsity captain my team had ever had.
I work to do only my best and nothing less. My goal is to continue to develop these skills while competing at the college level. I hope that you are willing to give me the chance I need to be a great member of your school and team.
Thank you,
Jenna Caster
