I have been participating in sports since I was 5 years old: tennis, soccer, basketball, swim and dive, lacrosse and field hockey. However, I did not fall in love with a sport until I began rowing the summer before 8th grade. The feeling of the wind and the run of the boat had me hooked. I found it played into my strengths of teamwork, perseverance, intensity, and dedication, challenging me both physically and mentally.
I have a strong work ethic and consistently strive to do my best at all times. I lead by example and try to always have a positive impact on my team. I am a team leader and was appointed to the rower engagement committee which is responsible for recruiting new members to join as well as planning activities for current members. I am coachable and competitive and hold myself to a high standard because I know that I am a reflection on my team and community.
Off the water, I am a hardworking student. I take Honors and AP classes, and maintain a high GPA. I enjoy mathematics and science and hope to pursue a career in dentistry, engineering or medicine. At school I participate in the National Honor Society, Future Medical Professionals club, act as a new student network ambassador, and am working toward a Global Scholars distinction upon graduation. This year, I founded a rowing club. Community is also important to me, and I am active as a student visionary for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society and have volunteered with New Albany Safety Town.
After graduation I hope to attend a college where I can continue to challenge myself and thrive both in the classroom and in the boat. I desire to be a champion both academically and athletically and to carry those successes with me throughout my life.
