Personal Statement
I started rowing the summer between 6th and 7th grade. When I first got in a boat, I knew I would be pouring my all into rowing for as long as I could. Before I found rowing, I tried over 8 sports. I wasn't aggressive enough and never stood out. I didn't feel a pull to be my best or a love for the sport like I do for rowing. When I found crew, that changed. Suddenly I wanted to do anything I could to make it to the top, I wanted to be the best for myself and the team. From the beginning even thinking about racing made my pulse increase and my stomach flutter with excitement. Rowing is what kept me going during covid. It was a community to confide in, a chance to get outside, and something to work for. My club has changed head coaches more than 7 times in the last four years. All the changes have made my team closer, and certainly adaptable. Rowing gives me a 2nd family, it makes me strong in more ways than just physically, and it continues to make me a better person.
I put my all into the things I'm passionate about. I am extremely focused and determined. I always try to stay calm and positive no matter the situation. In the classroom I like to learn as much as I can. As an athlete I am very adaptable. I can be in any boat, any seat, sweeping or sculling and can put everything I have out on the table. I try to gather as many opinions as possible so I can be well rounded. I am detail oriented, and will never disregard technique. I can be shy, but I try my best to be kind and welcoming to everyone. I always listen to everyone's opinions and take the lead when necessary. Working hard while still having fun is one of the most important things to me.
During High School I hope to attend many national regattas, push myself to be as fast as possible and inspire my team to be their best. My team now may be small but my, and my team’s goals, are large. I hope to attend a good school with a competitive, tight-knit team. I am currently hoping to study pre-med or pre-law
