My name is Felicity Pollock and I am a Junior at Lakeridge High School, in Lake Oswego, Oregon. After 10 years of playing soccer, I hung up my cleats and grabbed an oar instead. After my first practice I was hooked; I loved everything about it! Being on the water brought a laser focus that I had never felt before and the connections that I had towards my teammates were exhilarating. After a short period of time in the learn to row program, my coach threw me into the seat with no slide and let me take the mic - it turned out I was a quick study!
Over the past year, I have gained patience and a skill set that I didn’t know was possible. I have learned how to take feedback, then execute on it quickly and efficiently without judgment. I have worked hard on and off the water to connect with my rowers, figure out their unique learning styles and how to best motivate them. I like to arrive early and stay late to ensure my team gets the most out of practice or race days. Safety is at the forefront of everything I do, quickly followed by connecting the rowers with the coach and each other. Rowing is the ultimate team sport that requires grit, dedication, and sometimes being soaked to the skin with a smile on your face! I have enjoyed some amazing successes in both my women’s and men’s boats this past year and am looking forward to more opportunities in the Spring sprint season.
Being a coxswain at the collegiate level feels like a calling that I simply cannot pass up; I have so much to give to the athletes that I serve and I am ready to dig in and give them everything I’ve got!
