My name is Emily Duffy and I am a coxswain for Harriton High School in Rosemont, Pennsylvania. I have been coxing for six seasons with Harriton and one summer season with Whitemarsh Boat Club. Since starting crew during the spring of my freshman year, I have been devoted to the sport and it has taken up a major role in who I am today. I look up to my coaches and peers on the team. When people ask what I do on the team I get a lot of questions like, "why do you even go to the practices?" or the worst, "don't you just scream at them?" I believe that it's important for coxswains to go to practices to create a bond with their boat, team, and coaches. Just like how rowers have to practice a new lineup before they race it, coxswains have to do the same thing. I feel that I do my best coxing when I am able to practice and understand what each individual rower needs. While crew is a big part of my life, I have learned how to balance my athletics, academics, and free time.
