Hi, My name is Jocie Cooleen! I was involved in almost every sport as a kid, but I found my love and passion for rowing. My dad had rowed when he was in college and always pushed me to try it out, so I followed his advice and I am more than happy that I did! I first tried the sport during the winter of my 8th grade. In the winter, I was so eager to start rowing on the water for my freshman year. In the fall of my freshman year, I started rowing on the water and committed to winter training. My sophmore year, I rowed all three seasons and made big physical and mental improvements. I've learned to push myself, and be a great teammate. One of the highlights of my rowing journey so far was racing in the U17 4+ at the Head of the Charles. This regatta was an unforgettable experience and showed me how to be competitive and push myself to be the best. Throughout my sophomore spring, I raced at many regattas such as Cooper Cup, City Championships, SRAA's, and the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, which have advanced me as a rower. During these races, I was able to learn how to perform when under pressure and competition, while also stay focused throughout the race. Each regatta that I raced in this season pushed me to improve and made me more confident. Every day at practice, and at races, I have a good attitude and mentality. From the beginning of the winter, to towards the later spring, I have improved my 2k by 25 seconds. I'm a good teammate, always open to receiving feedback from coaches, and I'm always up for a challenge so that I can improve my rowing. During the spring sports ceremony this year, my coach awarded me with the JV award! Rowing has become a big part of my life now, and I would love the opportunity to keep challenging myself at the collegiate level.
