I have always been adventurous. So, when I heard about a brand-new rowing club starting up, I decided to give it a try. I was one of two participants in the first summer camp offered by Renton Rowing Center which gave me the chance for one-on-one coaching and extra time on the water. I immediately fell in love with the sport.
Slowly, the team began to grow; at one point, I was the only girl on the team which pushed me even harder to keep up with the guys. Being part of a new club has given me the opportunity to take part in forming it; such as, fundraising, recruiting, and even designing club apparel. On top of that, it has allowed me to experience sculling, sweeping and even a little bit of coxing and I have become quite adaptable. I enthusiastically help out wherever my team needs me.
The sport of rowing has not only taught me how to strive for and pursue my personal goals, but also how to be a good teammate and mentor—both in and out of the clubhouse. In addition to rowing, I give back to my community through participating in Mission Trek, a group of teens committed to helping others through service. I also participate in many extracurriculars within my school such as DECA (went to state in Entrepreneur Business start-up as well as integrated marketing campaign) 2 years, Bear Crew (guide incoming students) 2 years, Leadership (student leadership) 2 years.
I have now rowed for five years, year-round, and can’t wait to continue in college. Thank you for reading my personal statement.
