Hello coaches, my name is Sienna Sheppard I'm a current senior at Mercer Island High School located in Seattle Washington. I have been rowing for 4 years for my high school and at my local club team at Mount Baker Rowing Center. I've always been drawn to the idea of playing a sport ever since my parents signed me up for the pre-k soccer team. I hoped from sport to sport rotating each season to a different sport. I never really found the strong passion that I had in those sports that I do for rowing. I started my rowing journey back in the 5th grade doing only week-long summer programs all over Seattle. It stuck to those summer programs over those years of middle school. After COVID happened however when I entered my freshman year of high school and one of my friends who coxed at Baker recommended, I start again. as I was looking for something to do after school and I decided to stop playing basketball, soccer, and lacrosse, that year and stick to only rowing. When people ask me all the time, why did I choose rowing? over the sports that i grew up with my whole life. I talk about the leadership that I get out of rowing. the friendship I built over the hard work each day. The biggest thing that I get out of rowing is the motto “When one boat wins, the entire team wins.” The best feeling, I get out of rowing is the support inside and outside the boat, whenever you win a race or do well at practice the support from your team is unmatched. rowing at mount baker these past years of high school i have made my closest friends inside my team and also with some of the people from opposing team. i love rowing beacuse its a outlit for my mind and body but mostly the people I meet out of it.
For my future in college, I want to be a positive team leader. I would love to provide a safe space inside and outside of rowing. I am flexible being able to row both sides of any seat any time. I am also really coachable, and always willing to take feedback to master any skills. Inside the classroom, I am eager to face new challenges and always put a smile on someone's face. I hope you enjoy it and I'm looking forward to meeting new goals and people along the way.
