Statement of Abigail Ackerson
My success in school is driven by my soccer life. Being a goal keeper and, therefore, the leader on the field motivates me to be a leader in the classroom. My competitive nature drives me in the classroom as well as on the pitch.
I began club soccer in the fifth grade. I played two years for Hoover Soccer Club then went to Vestavia Hills Soccer Club. 2016 will be my sixth at Vestavia Soccer. The Fall of 2015 my team played both the Premier League-Central (PLC) and Regional Premier League (RPL). The team also won State Cup as did my Fall 2014 and 2013/2014 full year team. I was in the 1999 Olympic Development Program, Alabama Division, during the 2011-2012 season and was on the 1999 Olympic Development Program, Alabama Division state pool for the 2013-2014 season. Finally, at Hoover High School I have been selected as the starting keeper for the girl's soccer team since my freshman year.
I maintained an A-B average throughout middle school. In eighth grade, I was inducted into National Junior Honor Society. Currently in my junior year I maintain a 3.9 weighted GPA, and this year was inducted into the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. In college I plan to major in English Literature with a concentration in creative writing, and a possible double major in History. My goal is to become an author, so I am seeking a school with a strong literature program. My ambition is to play goal keeper at the college level while pursuing my academic degree.
