My name is Emma Lynch and I am a goalkeeper from Calgary, Alberta, Canada who will graduate in 2026.
I currently play for the Calgary Foothills Soccer Club, and Cavalry ID Girls Academy and am the starting goalkeeper with the Foothills 08 Alberta Youth Soccer League (AYSL) team.
Canada Soccer has endorsed the Calgary Foothills Soccer Club to play in the provincial AYSL, which is part of the Canada Soccer Pathway and is considered the highest level of competition in Canada. In comparison, AYSL is equivalent to the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) in the USA.
Over the past few years, I have backstopped my team to win the following Championships:
In the fall of 2022, I was selected to the Foothills UWS Academy team which was ranked #10 nationally by First Touch Football (FTF) Canada. While on the team I competed against College and University players that were 4 to 8 years older.
In the fall of 2023, I was selected to the Cavalry FC Girls ID Academy team. The Cavalry FC is a Canadian professional soccer team that plays in the Canadian Professional Soccer League. The Cavalry ID Academy is a team combined of invited 2008 and 2007-born players from across Alberta.
Additionally, in the fall of 2023, I was selected for my high school varsity soccer team. The team won both the Calgary High School Division 2 Regular Season and Playoff champions. I was named as a Co-MVP in the Championship Final game.
In March 2024, I was recommended and attended the Alberta Soccer High-Performance Program Combine. In collaboration with Canada Soccer, Alberta Soccer is developing a High-Performance program for the province's high-potential female players aged 15-18. This program will be licensed by Canada Soccer, which will be recognized by specific standards expected for national high-performance programs nationwide.
Additionally in March 2024, I was selected to attend the Whitecaps FC Academy Showcase and represent the Alberta South Junior Girls Prospects as the goalkeeper. The Whitecaps FC Academy Showcase is a marquee event for player development and identification. This event provides players the opportunity to compete and get scouted by Whitecaps staff, college and university coaches and national team coaches.
During my first year of High School, I was offered the challenge to be the school’s newest Sports Journalist, publishing Instagram-based interviews. I took this opportunity to interview different sports athletes and post the interviews to our school’s Social Media platform. This has given me the confidence to interact with different members of the community as well as public speaking. In my first month of high school, I was awarded “Lancer of the Month” for outstanding citizenship in recognition of dedication, passion and hard work.
In September 2023, I was one of eight females selected for a national “See Them, Be Them” initiative. I submitted both an essay and a video on “What soccer meant to me”. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience which included team-building activities - on and off the pitch - and interactive and intimate mentorship opportunities with Canadian Women’s National Team (CWNT) player, Quinn, and CWNT head coach, Bev Priestman. I had the opportunity to use my journalism experience to ask questions and interview Quinn.
As a goalkeeper, I possess high mental confidence in my abilities and can perform under high-pressure situations. My positivity and strong communication skills bring calmness to teammates when they are tactically under pressure.
Tactically, I have been identified to be a positionally sound goalkeeper with quick reactions. I possess a strong soccer IQ which helps with the decisions I make on the field.
Technically, I can use both feet which allows my teams to build out from the back with confidence. I use a variety of distribution skills which allows me to accurately find players who are in different areas of the pitch. Not only are my feet an essential asset, but so are my hands. I have continually played against players (male and female) who are older, putting my shot-stopping abilities to the test.
I am a leader on and off the field. Socially, I keep strong relationships with past and present teammates and coaches. I bring positivity to my peers and am always aspiring to educate myself in school and sports.
My passion is to play soccer as a goalkeeper at the highest varsity level and pursue my education at either a Canadian or American university. After receiving my education I am dedicated to challenging myself to play professionally at home or abroad, as my club is a founding franchise for the upcoming Project 8 Canadian Women's Professional League in Canada. I am currently eligible to compete for Canada, Bermuda, England and Wales.
