I fell in love with the game at the age of five and from then on, my passion grew and I aspired for greater things. Soccer has contributed big time towards my confidence as a person and it has been a great escape from every day life.
From a young age, I was recognized as a very technical player with having a sharp touch. I’m strong on the ball and am able to use skills to manoeuvre through players and create line breaking passes using various techniques. I’ve been recognized as a “quiet leader” and an example of this was being awarded the captain’s role as the youngest player on the Alberta Winter Games Team. Although I may not be the loudest player, I lead by working tirelessly on the pitch directing teammates to ensure constant movement and connection with one another. It’s very important to me that I leave every match knowing I put everything I could into it.
At a young age, I developed an awareness of the field and vision of where best to move the ball. Because of this, I naturally gravitated towards the center midfield positions. During my years as a soccer player with Club and the Whitecaps Rex Team, my “superpower” is the ability to remain composed, calm the play down and use disguise in my passes. Because of the ability to see the field, I lead teams I play for in assists and help out with also putting goals on the scoreboard.
One of my biggest strengths is my “coach ability”. I am a student of the game and am able to take whatever my coaches or teammates tell me and implement it in my game. There is so much to learn in soccer, so showing up to every training session and game open minded ready to learn, is important to me. Because of this mindset, I’ve seen my game continuously improve.
I take ownership of leading on the field in moments where my team can convert; like taking pk’s, corner kicks and free kicks.
Although soccer has been a huge part of my life, it has helped me build qualities that have been crucial for my success in school. I have always been determined in academics and have achieved straight A’s throughout my whole elementary and middle school career. I also received all A’s on my exams in every subject from 7-9 including French (second language class) in which I excelled and was recognized for the “Française Fierté de la Langue” award. I’ve participated in every extra credit project and events like science fairs and the Waterloo National Math Contest, placing in the top 20% in Canada, and first in my school from the years 2021-2023.
As I step into highschool attending all Dash 1 classes and an abundance of extra curriculars, I will continue to strive to attend a university where I can play at a very high level competitively as well as excel academically.
