Hi, my name is Sophie Marrs, but on the pitch, my coach and teammates call me Sophs or Marrsy. I have lived and grown up in Kelowna, BC, Canada all my life. My earliest memories include standing on the pitch's side watching my Dad play soccer. My goal is to be apart of the soccer community for as long as I can, and reach the highest level possible for me. Soccer is my #1 passion in life and will always be, all day I dream about getting on the pitch and can't wait for game day.
I have been immersed in soccer culture for as long as I can remember, from watching Arsenal play on the TV every weekend, to going to the local field to sharpen my technique and touches. I currently play in the BCSPL, for the TOFC 09 Girls, which is the highest level of youth soccer in BC. I am honoured to be the captain of the TOFC 09 Girls for the past 3 years and have learned many lessons of leadership on/off the pitch in my experiences. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to train and trial with the Whitecaps REX program, and the Portland Thorns Academy 09 ECNL girls, which were both wonderful experiences. During the offseason and pre-season, I have had first-hand opportunities to train with and watch the UBCO Women's Soccer University Program, as my dad is a volunteer assistant coach. I am currently a part of the BC Identification Group, an identified group of the top players in the BCSPL and province of BC.
I have always dreamed of playing D1 soccer in the States as a Canadian. I would describe myself as a powerful 6, or CDM, who is tall and strong for my age. I have a high football IQ and a diverse passing range to set my teammates up for success. I am both the freekick and corner kick taker for my team, and have numerous techniques in my locker. I am a strong tackler and ball-winner in the middle of the park, with a high work rate that I would bring into any college environment.
Academics are an extremely important part of my life along with my performances on the pitch. I am a well-rounded student, and have maintained a 4.0 GPA in the classroom. In all my core classes, I maintained a 95% and above. My parents are both teachers, so they and I put a large emphasis on my grades, and I will continue to through high school and beyond. I always try to focus on what I can control, and that is my effort and determination while I am playing soccer and in school.
Thank you for taking the time to review my profile!
