Hi, my name is Joy Force Barlin and I am a freshman who recently made my school’s varsity soccer team as starting keeper. I have been playing soccer since I was six years old and club soccer since I was eleven. In school I take two honors classes, have a 4.0 GPA, and I’m currently at the top of my class (#1 out of 666 students). I am also a BSA scout working towards Eagle, a Girl Scout who has received the Bronze and Silver Awards and is working towards Gold, and I am working on receiving the Congressional Award. I also love drama and want to be an actor one day in addition to having a professional soccer career. I have been playing goalkeeper almost exclusively since I was ten, taking keeper lessons since I was eleven, and my love and passion for the sport, and this position in particular, grows stronger every day. Being a keeper makes me happy and I constantly strive to be the best keeper I can be. In my club, I am often requested to fill in on other teams when their keepers cannot make a game—often playing up at higher age brackets or divisions and receiving praise afterwards from the team and coaches. During our last club season before the pandemic, I made the “Team of the Week” for my position three times. I have also made lifelong friendships with the other girls on my soccer teams, which is something that is very important to me. I have a strong drive to be the starting keeper on a college team and eventually a professional soccer player. I work as hard as I can on this passion, as with all passions in my life, utilizing five key ingredients: my attitude, confidence, effort, skills, and constant improvement. I believe these make me a better human being and a strong soccer player who is worth having on a college team.
