Hi, I’m Summer.
I play for So Cal Blues ECNL G2005 (Coach Draluck).
What makes me stand out as a player and human being is my versatility and adaptability on and off the field. My dad is in the Navy and I have lived in three countries and six states. I have always found my community and friends in sports, and I have excelled in club sports since I was 5. I started competitive swim when I was five (my dad is a National Champion for DIII Swim from UC Santa Cruz, and received the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award for 2022) and made it to European Championships between the years 2009-2012. I also played competitive/club Basketball, JO Gymnastics, Excel Gymnastics, and Track. I started playing competitive soccer when I was in 5th grade and have consistently been improving and excelling in the sport. I was selected to play at the Valencia Cup for Global Premier Soccer (GPS) Select Team, in Spain in 2019. As a freshman, I represented my high school in all seasons: participating in Cheerleading, Soccer, Track, and Stunt. When sports opened back up my sophomore year, I participated in Soccer and Track simultaneously as both sports were offered in the same season due to the COVID 19 pandemic. As a junior, I was the starting center back for my varsity soccer team and I was rarely subbed out. For track, I participate in sprint relays, 100, 200, 400 and 300 hurdles . I qualified for CIF prelims in all the events I ran at League Finals, including the 100 M dash and 4x100 and 4x400 relays. I was named First Team All League and received the Outstanding Sprinter of the Year award for Track and Field 2022 for La Costa Canyon High School.
I am a dedicated athlete and have been my whole life. I am strong, super fast, focused, and a hard worker. I have always played multiple sports, but soccer is my passion and my sport of choice for college play. I love the game, the strategy, the speed of play, and being part of a team. I know I can play at the highest level and defend against an attacking D1 offense. I am determined to win.
Up until my sophomore year, I was one of the smallest players on the team, and now, having gone through a late growth spurt, I am one of the biggest and still growing. I have experience playing as an outside right and left back, and I have been used as a utility player, filling in when my coach has needed a change in pace on the field. Most recently my coach played me at the 6.
I am dependable and have a great relationship with my coaches. I lead by example and I have been accepted quickly by my teammates. I am reliable, consistent, vocal, motivate and encourage my teammates. I love having the game in front of me and adjusting to different styles of play. I provide good coverage and excel at winning the ball in the air and in one v. one tackles. I am strategic in my positioning and composed. I love a challenge and will not back down. I am coachable and I believe every practice and every game is an opportunity to develop and grow. I believe that progress is always possible. I am fiercely competitive, I love to win, never give up, and will battle the entire 90 minutes on the field. I am also pretty funny and just really love to play the game!
I have also helped train younger kids in soccer. At my previous club, I was chosen by my coach to conduct STP training once a week for the younger ages, 2007-2010, and enjoyed volunteering my time in that role.
This summer, I spent the mornings working at a surf camp in Carlsbad, CA, teaching kids how to surf.
I am trending upwards on the field, and also in my academics. I worked hard to achieve a 4.0 both semesters of my junior year. This is just the beginning. I want to major in business and will receive a business distinction when I graduate from La Costa Canyon High School. I also plan to take all the prerequisites for medical school. I can see myself committing my life to sports, even in my career, and may focus on sports medicine.
Thanks for taking the time to get to know me!
