I got into soccer after my first year of playing rec. It was fun, and I told my dad I wanted to play again the next year. Each year there was a new challenge and obstacle I needed to face, this is probably where I gain the skills to face day to day issues currently as a teen. On the field I have to make quick decision and rely on teammates to help me, it the ultimate team building exercise which transfer over to my classroom. My parents and I believe soccer is the reason I do so well in school. Especially since I do have a learning disability, I truly think the ability to overcome it has come from my competitive nature due to the sport I love.
My father tells me my competitive side is what sets me apart from other girls on the field, “You can’t teach heart!” is what he says. I play with a chip on my shoulder, I want to win, and I want to outperform the girl in front of me. If someone gets the best of me, I take it, internalize it, and work to get better so when we play again, I have something new for her. I don’t want to be shown up twice by any player. This is what I will bring to your program, the ability to set the goal line further and put in the time to reach it.
