Personal Statement
My name is Franziska Semik. I live in San Diego, California. I started playing soccer when I was just 4 years old and it has always been one of my greatest passions. I have been able to put my high energy and competitive spirit to good use by being a positive force on my team as a 5’10 defender that always wins the ball in the air, as well as an important team leader as the defender of the year for my varsity high school team and starter on both teams.
I currently play outside back and CB for my WCFC DPL team that is the top team in the Western Region, #1 with a 14-1-3 record out of the 14 team conference. My team has beaten 4 out of the last 5 ECNL teams we have played in friendlies and tournaments in the last 18 months. My club team, previously the San Diego Strikers Premier team went to nationals in 2019 as a top 4 team in SoCal. We were absorbed by the West Coast Futbol Club this past year and with great pride earned the title of National DPL finalists.
This past year playing soccer for my club team, often having to travel on weekends out of state for our league games due to Covid, while simultaneously leading my high school team to the CIF Division 1 final taught me a great deal about balancing academics, athletics, and family responsibilities. My success this year amidst a pandemic was partly due to the role soccer and my teammates played in my life. I’m happiest on the pitch and so I am committed to continuing my academic and athletic success playing collegiate soccer while pursuing a degree in health sciences with the goal of becoming an occupational therapist.
